Free slash, shockwave and magic VFX shaders for your Godot 4 2D game. The full pack is Pulse FX 2D.

Four procedural shaders for 2D combat and magic effects in Godot 4.7, free to use in commercial games. Everything is drawn in the shader: no textures, no particles, nothing to enable.

What is inside

• Slash Arc: swept blade trail, one-shot. Presets: blood_red, ice_blue, golden_wide.
• Shockwave: expanding ground ring with ripples, one-shot. Presets: dust, energy_blue, fire_ground.
• Lightning: animated jagged bolt between two points with a side branch, looping. Presets: blue_arc, green_zap, purple_storm.
• Magic Circle: rotating ring with a star and glyph strokes, looping. Presets: arcane_purple, fire_sigil, holy_seal.
• A small demo scene: keys 1-4 pick an effect, Left/Right cycle presets.

Use it

1. Copy addons/pulse_fx_2d_lite into your project.

2. Add a ColorRect, load a preset .tres as its material.

3. For the one-shots, tween the progress uniform from 0 to 1.

Licence

Free for commercial and non-commercial games, modification allowed, no attribution needed. No redistribution or resale as a standalone asset or inside another pack. Full text in LICENSE.txt.

The addon folder is separate (pulse_fx_2d_lite), so Lite and the full pack can sit in the same project.

AI assistance

The shaders, presets, demo and this text were written with AI assistance, then compiled and rendered in Godot and checked by eye. The previews are renders from the demo, not separately generated art.

Honest testing note

Tested on Godot 4.7 stable, Windows, GL Compatibility renderer: the project imports cleanly, the demo runs with no errors, and all 12 presets were rendered and inspected. Also: the full Pulse FX 2D pack (same shaders) rendered all presets with no errors in Forward+ (Vulkan) and Compatibility on an RTX 2060. Not tested: web export, Mobile, macOS/Linux, mobile devices, other Godot versions. Generators ignore the node's texture; use a square rect of at least 256x256. Provided as is, no warranty.
